Grey Wolf - Forest of Wolves Series
These lovely wolves are protected in a preserve called the Lakota Wolf Wildlife Preserve, in Columbia NJ. They are beautiful creatures, and the perserve gives them a home in an otherwise hostile environment where wolves are much maligned. Sure they live by eating chickens and some live stock but truth be told Bears are probably more responsible for the things wolves are blamed for.
Wolves live there lives in a community, much like humans they mate for life, and protect their young. They morn their partners death much like us. And are competitive for the top spot in the pack. (Well I know some humans just like that!).
If you live close to NJ or Penn. it’s worth a visit. They have regular tours and Photo tours, I took these shots on the regular tour, although the other tour is probably better for a serious photography experience with wolves.
Part of the proceeds from the profits of the sales of these prints will be donated to the organization.
Camera info: Canon 5D with a 75-300 zoom lens attached.

incredible beauty…...but the eyes have it…..
Mary Campbell replied
Thank’s I must admit I enhanced the saturation a bit, to look like they did when I was there. It is their unique eyes that are so attractive though.

Lovely capture! Each animal has a special place in our world ecology! Sounds like a wonderful place to observe them!
Mary Campbell replied
Yes, I was very impressed with the care the 3 people who run and maintain this preserve take to keep them all healthy and natural.

What a beautiful sight and perfect shot. I’ve once seen a pack run wild here in the ‘burbs, but not this closely. While sad that wolves need a sanctuary now to survive there, I applaud your photographs for showing their beauty.
Mary Campbell replied
Yes they are magnificant creatures, and it is sad. The reserve said that their are very few left in the wild and they are mostly being sustained by reserves like this. Thanks for stopping by.
John Wright
Beautiful animal, great pose. You’ve given me a new destination, thank you. ;-)
Mary Campbell replied
If you do wind up going and take the regular tour bring a long lens as you’ll have to shoot thru a fense. If you shoot at the maximum lenght the fense should disappear. The photo tour gives you better access but it cost more too. So it’s what you’re looking for. I took these on the regular tour.

Awesome photo, I’m going to have to find Columbia NJ

Go North then West on Rt. 80 almost to Pennsylvania and it will take you there. It’s a good day trip. Have fun.
