Fantastic!

Love this, brings to mind the “Burning Bush”. The texture in the foreground really sucks my eye into the photo and the line of trees coming from the left side take my eye to the subject. This is a very nicely composed photo and a joy to view. I like it. dp

Paul – This is why I love infrared in the hands of a master!
Paul Lavallee
Thanks for the compliments everyone! Steve, I don’t think I’m a master, I’m just a mad scientist whose concoctions sometimes come out right.

Very nice! Do you process the Efke IR yourself? What ASA do you rate it at?
Paul Lavallee replied
I really don’t have the space to do my own processing, so a local lab develops my film (luckily there is still one near me that does 120). I experimented with different exposure times, 1-2 seconds in sunlight, 4 seconds when cloudy, and 8-16 seconds in the shade. The Holga has only one aperture and a bulb shutter, so everything was guesswork. Considering the limitations of the camera, I was very happy with the results.

brilliant photo Paul .. someday I want to try infrared too .. this is a stunning piece!
Paul Lavallee replied
I really need to write a blog entry for 15×100 about how to shoot infrared film. It really is pretty easy with a Holga, I was quite surprised.

Great shot, wonderful tone and the composition is perfect!! Very well done.

Paul Lavallee replied
Thanks Brendan for the composition comment. The Holga viewfinder is notoriously bad. It was designed for 6×4.5 cm negatives, but I always shoot at 6×6 cm. I always try to compensate by taking a few steps forward, but the farther away the subject is, the worse the composition is off. Over time I have gotten better at it.
