I (heart) Zombies

a thick mist gnawed its way into the gloom of night
shadows crept mysteriously from streetlight to shop window
everything was abandoned, or closed up tight
except for me sitting on my deckchair eating a Pringle

I heard grumblings in the bushes, chatterings in the vines
garbled voices in the gardens where mushrooms chose to die
as the mandragora set about to scream in their low shrill pine
and, I just sat there mesmerized by the faculties of cheesy brie

dark oozing jell-o filled the cracks in the sidewalks and walls
brick dripped mortar like skeletons into a flour-like dust
carnivorous insects unheard before making their nightly calls
as I merely sat there plucking eyebrow hairs in wanderlust

there was no script, no details that were ever written
just the creepy things at their gross and ghastly labor
for all that was ever horrible, eaten or bitten
zombies came, devoured , ate my neighbor
