the secretary

wearing cellophane
the secretary, tasting
her meatball sub,
flipped the paper
onto the counter,
sauce on the corner,
saying, sign by the x…

she had no dignifying
appearance, no gracious
caring, just a grimace
that lowered the status
of her humanity
by a distant continence

she had done this for years
now, obviously bored,
the day tedious with every word
she typed or scrawled,
nearly by rote,
she lacked excitement,
acting like everything
was excrement

she needed a new job
one that would put a spark
and change her outlook

this was for certain,
but, I was glad
to leave there
and looked back
as she sat
zombified behind her

another wreckage
of the system….

I’ve seen people exceedingly bored in their job…so bored that they look as if they would rather be six feet under….frankly I have never been bored at any job I have ever done and that is the truth….i think it is all about attitude….even if that secretary had a new job she would probably behave in exactly the same way, i am sure of it….i once worked with a woman who literally used to fall asleep on the job and sometimes even fall off her chair….how’s that for bored!! she ate all day long and the paperwork was always full of grease and gunge…i think it is a form of disrespect.

  • and some people just get numb after doing th same thing for so long

true…perhaps shiftig people along is sometimes the best gift you can ever give them!

  • I’ve been shifted along…not so sure about it being thebest gift, though…

yeah…true, maybe I should rephrase that!! Sometimes it’s best to go and do something else somewhere else and get a renewed perspective on life!!

  • yes, it move changed alot for me, but, truth be known, it is not my ideal situation still, and even over a year after being fired from my job, I feel disdain, and, yet, in knowing I have got to work again, I have gotten used to not working for the first time in my life
