The Chateau Laurier Hotel, Ottawa by 

An available light shot of the classic Chateau Laurier Hotel In Ottawa (Ontario, Canada), taken on an early October evening in 2012.

This view is from a vantage point on the Wellingston Street bridge over the famous Colonel By Canal, looking north-east towards the hotel.

The hotel is now known as the “Fairmont Chateau Laurier” but was once a jewel in the Canadian National Railway’s chain of hotels.

Tech details: Fuji S9500, 300mm, ISO 400, available evening light, 1/50th at f4.5, RAW format digital neg. Processed as a B&W and printed with some adaptive tone mapping and warm toning.

Max is a semi-retired 60+ boomer science guy, currently living in Ottawa, Canada’s capital. Growing up with photography and art in his family, he was self-taught ever since he developed his own films at the age of 13. “I do it for the sheer joy of creating an image regardless of whether it pleases, stuns or provokes”, he says. He likes to experiment and is currently exploring pinhole, Infra-red, panoramic, and high dynamic range photography.
