Macro study of lichen on a tree lit by the afternoon sun. This was the final composition I settled upon, as it struck me that it was a rusty apparition of a fiery steed, a horse’s head.

Tech details: Shot with a Fujicolor S9500 in tele-macro mode. Cropped for the final composition. Some vibrance & saturation to intentionally emphasize the rich colours in the lichen

Location/date: By the Ottawa River near Ottawa, Canada. Late August.
