“It is the old Willson Carbide Mill. Thomas Willson built it to produce acetylene which is a by-product of calcium carbide. It actually managed to survive the Great Fire [of Ottawa] and later was used to house the RCAF photo and mapping division (during the War).
Apparently, there are tenders to refurbish it but since it stands on territory claimed by the Algonquin [ first nations]…. that is a contentious issue. It is used during ceremonies by the Algonquin."
