Infra-Red Springtime in Ottawa, No. 1 by

Springtime at the Arboretum in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. We had a late spring there, and trees just started to show new foliage. Taken in true infra-red and rendered as a duotone.

Also appears in the calendar Reflections of the Seasons

Date: April-May , 2009
Tech note: Tech note: taken with a Fuji S9500 and a 720nm IR filter . Exposure was 15 sec at f5.6 and focal length was 28mm. A tripod was used. Processed with CS2. Some vignette correction.

They are both stunning, but I like this one better. The color temp is more infrared, the black river and reflection are great, and I like the composition of the half tree on the right of the frame.

  • Thanks Paul. I thought out the composition more on this one and I was pleased the image turned out well. I chose the toning colour to break away from sepia while enhancing the feel of “new” springtime green.
