A mono version of an earlier work

Something very special to me…..This bayonet was owned by my grandfather during WWll and given to me when he passed. This is the only thing he took from the war, he did not even collect his war medals. I used to ask him all the time about the war, but always got the same reply…“I have seen things that no man should ever see” and that was all he would say! My grandmother told me after he passed that he had been in a pow camp and had managed to escape. She also told me that he went back out on Dday and was involved in the clearing of a concentration camp. That is about all i know of my grandfathers time during the war.

Bayonets have their lives stamped on them and in a few short minutes i was able to find out a lot of details on the bayonet owned by my grandfather
It was made in June 1887 in Enfield and was to be used on the Lee Metford Rifle.
stamped for reissue in 1905 (Boer war), and then again in 1934. There are several other stamps that are hard to see. It is also stamped with 9HLI 530….which is the 9th Highland Light Infantry….they fought in both WW1 and WWll
