Taken underwater in Raja Ampat, Indonesia, this is a view through ‘Snells Window’. It is a strange effect you get underwater when you look up through an-almost circle. When the water is calm the view in the circle is what is reflected from the surface above and around you.
Taken with Nikon D300 in Subal Housing & tokina 10-17 lens
Fantastic shot, I’ve never heard of “Snell’s Window” before, although I’ve noticed the phenomenon. Definitely an effect I’ll be playing with next time I’m in clear water.

thanks – its always tempting to go deeper to see if the circle completes but it never does.

Mainly positioning an object in the window, but I will let you know when I master it Muzy
yeah do that, I’d love to see it. I experimented a bit on the hotel pool on another trip which was fun, the skies were against me that day though
Example from a hotel pool
