This Ford Falcon Hardtop was one of the racers in the 1978 Hardie Ferodo 1000 motor race held on the Mount Panorama racing circuit overlooking the town of Bathurst west of the Blue Mountains in New South Wales, Australia.
This was the most popular motor race in Australia at the time and was run over a distance of 1000 kilometres. After the race the circuit reverts back to being a public road.
This particular car, race number ‘4’, was driven by the team of Rusty French and Graham Moore but did not finish the race this year – completing only 90 laps. It is shown here at the Reid Park section of the track. Note: fuel leaking behind.
This type of car formed the basis of the star car in the Australian motion picture, “Mad Max” starring Mel Gibson.
The photo was taken with an Asahi Pentax SPII camera using Kodak Safety Film 5035 colour negative film.
The photo was tweaked using Gimp software – smudge tool to remove some imperfections and brightness/contrast tool and sharpening filter.
