The famous steam engine, “Flying Scotsman” (4472) visited Australia in 1989 (from its home in the United Kingdom) and was used on some rail journey within Australia.
It was sometimes partnered with the local former New South Wales Government Railway steam engine 3801 for some of these trips.
This was the case for this photo which was also accompanied by the local diesel engine 4479 to carry the train up over the Blue Mountains – west of the New South Wales capital of Sydney.
The photo was taken near the Blue Mountains town of Warrimoo and was taken with an Asahi Pentax SPII camera using Kodak Transparency film.
The date was 25 June 1989.
The photo was tweaked using Gimp software – smudge tool and select/copy/paste tools to remove some imperfections and brightness/contrast tool and sharpening filter.
