The Catalina Festival was held at the old former Royal Australian Air Force seaplane base at Rathmines on the shore of Lake Macquarie south of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia in 2012.
The Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation (CAC) Ca-16 Wirraway was the advanced trainer for the Royal Australian Air Force during the Second World War (and for some time afterwards) and this example flew down from Queensland to give several flypasts during the Festival.
The photo was taken with a Nikon D90 camera fitted with a Sigma EX 50-500mm 1:4-6.3 APO DG HSM zoom lens.
The photo was tweaked using Gimp software – brightness/contrast tool and sharpening filter.
