This Ryan STM is taking off from the gravel airstrip during the Melton Airshow at Melton, Victoria, Australia on 20 March 2010.
The aircraft is in the colours of its service with the Netherlands East Indies Air Force prior to its escape from the Japanese invasion of World War Two. It escaped to Australia and was incorporated into the Royal Australian Air Force during the War.
The air show was to commemorate the centenary of the first powered flight in Australia which was by the famous American escapologist, Harry Houdini. It took place at nearby Diggers Rest.
The photo was taken with a Nikon D70 camera fitted with a Sigma EX 50-500mm 1:4-6.3APO DG HSM zoom lens.
The photo was slightly tweaked using Gimp software – brightness/contrast tool and sharpening filter.
