The Royal Australian Air Force was an early adopter of the Lockheed C-130 Hercules transport aircraft.
Shown here is one of the RAAF’s first Hercules – a C-130A model. The RAAF has since used the D, H and J models. An interesting bit of trivia – the current J model has twice the number of propeller blades as the original A model.
This aircraft is shown doing a steep take-off during the Williamtown Air Show held at the RAAF Base airfield at Williamtown, north of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia on 3 April 1976. Note: there is a spiral contrail from one of the propeller tips.
The photo was taken with an Asahi Pentax SPII camera using Kodak colour transparency film.
The photo has been tweaked using Gimp software – select/copy/paste tools to remove some imperfections, brightness/contrast tool and sharpening filter.
