This Consolidated Catalina is owned by The Catalina Flying Memorial Ltd and is seen here at Bankstown Airport in the western suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia where it is in the long term process of being restored to flying condition.
It had previously been acquired from the Portuguese Sierras and then flown back to Australia.
The men working on it at Bankstown kindly allowed me within the fenceline to take these photos.
Their group is always looking for help to undertake the restoration. If you can offer them any parts or your labour and expertise their website can be found at: www.catalinaflying.org.au
The photo was taken with a Nikon D70 camera fitted with a Tamron AF Aspherical LD DiII SP 11-18mm 1:4.5-5.6 [IF] zoom lens.
The photo has been tweaked using Gimp software – select/copy/paste tool to remove some imperfections, brightness/contrast tool and sharpening filter.
