Military aviation first began in Australia at the Point Cook Airfield, south west of Melbourne, Victoria a hundred years ago. The 2014 Point Cook Air Show was held at the same location over the weekend of 1-2 March 2014 and the star of the show was this replica of the first Australian military aircraft to fly in the country. It is of a Bristol Boxkite – shown here taxiing in after having flown on the second day of the Air Show. Note: In the background is freighter ship on nearby Port Phillip Bay which borders the airfield. The photo was taken with a Nikon D90 camera fitted with a Sigma EX 50-500mm 1:4-6.3 APO DG HSM zoom lens. The photo was tweaked using Gimp software – brightness/contrast tool, sharpening and cartoon filters and curves tool.
