This crab was seen at Garie Beach in the Royal National Park, between Sydney and Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia on 31 March 2007. Strangely the crab wasn’t on the beach or perhaps the nearby rocks (where you normally might see one) but some way up and beside the trail to the (now defunct) Garie Beach YHA youth hostel. Curious? The photo was taken with a Nikon D70 camera fitted with a Tamron AF Aspherical XR Di LD [IF] 28-300mm 1:3.5-6.3 Macro zoom lens plus polarizing filter. The photo was tweaked using Gimp software – brightness/contrast tool and sharpening and cartoon filters.
