I visited the French city of Caen in the Normandie district of France in 2012 with the intention of seeing some of the sights relating to the Allied invasion in 1944 during the Second World War but was side-tracked by coming across the home of William the Conqueror who was involved in an invasion in the opposite direction some centuries earlier.
I use the term “home” advisedly as this home is really a castle of a quite substanatial size. The corner of the castle in the foreground is just part of the battlements and is bigger than most people’s home. A cathedral is just across the road.

The photo was tweaked using Gimp software – brightness/contrast tool and sharpening filter.
