This is Oshodi as it was in 2001.
It is a popular transport hub on the mainland of Lagos and of course became very infamous for its gridlock and other vices.
And that wasn’t how it was.
The present state government about 3years, felt enough was enough and a “cleansing” of sorts took place to allow smooth flow of traffic and ensured that the buying and selling became a thing of the past.
Today, some infrastructural developments have taken place with lightning and the beautification of the surrounding vista.
Funningly, the same Lagosians who protested against the status que, have felt in love with the new look of the place, coming here to see, the miracle of a change.
I haven’t done a retrospective shoot of this place 12 years the line but it is a symbolic picture that if there is a will by government, a tidier and more amenable policies can be put together for the people,no matter how long things have gone bad.
Oshodi was a miracle and still is for Nigerians, local and abroad, talking about the will…
This picture was amongst those I exhibited at Documenta 11 in Germany,2002.
