web light..... by David Murphy

Up on top of The Nut one early morning, I noted the dawn light filtering through the forest on the sou’west side. And when i got there, all i could see were little rainbows everywhere, amongst the lower levels of the trees……….which turned out to be spider webs!! So, it was a hurried preparation just in case the light changed, a lot of mucking around to avoid glare, and setting the tripod in the right place, and I was right to try and get this on file. With an appropriate f-stop, and a hope that the wind stopped so the little buggers stopped trembling, I fired away……
……..and this is the best i could get……

Freakin’ h this is cool David! What is the light source? It gives the web an opalescent look. So very beautiful :)

  • Hey Shells, enjoying Florida?
Light source is early morning sunlight filtering through a stand of blackwoods…i set up in such a way so i could avoid glare and an unobtrusive background…and exposed it so i could darken the background as much as possible, with just the right amount of dof, I hoped anyway!! Bit hard to see with million year old eyes…..
Thanks for the gracious comment!!! hugs

nice capture murph…is that the web of the seldom seen Tarkineous ferousious spider

  • ….not quite……it was, in fact, the lesser known long-legged-us-biteus-heapus, native only to discarded boots and camera bags laying on the ground….
    Do you know it??

Ok, I don’t know exactly how you got this effect and the truth is that it just doesn’t matter…this is AT LEAST a double WOW. Great work, David.
  • Thanks Mick…….to be honest, it wasn’t rocket science, and I’ve given Shelly Hiebert above a bit of a rundown on what i did.
