*"I Am"*

This is a poem from my recently published book,
“God Loves A Riddle: A Small Collection of Poems.”

All confusing and affirming.
These poems were written during the most base need survival years in
Boulder, Colorado; while facing 20 year old PTSD flashbacks of the murder of my infant son never before surfaced.
It seems I was piecing my fragmented life together almost as quickly as the puzzle pieces were being thrown at me! Frightenly abstract.

I am
Nobody’s project
To be improved upon
My race, my foot, my path,
Prize I have won.

I am
Nobody’s derelict pile
To be shuffled or prioritized differently
My talents, my options, my actions, my speed,
Receptive at a mere dial.

I am
Nobody’s unfulfilled half
To be seeking and knotting myself toward another
My food, my body, my experienced reason,
This poem makes me laugh.

I am
Nobody’s to attire
To be belled or proselytized
My dress, my dance, my voice,
I can assuredly light my own fire.

I am
Nobody’s engraved waffle iron cast
To be used with strings and expectations
My abilities, my willingness, my words,
Applause or disapproval will not finish me at the last.
