There’re crackers in my teapot,
and salt in the sugar bowl,
crusts of toast where you’d least like them most
and milky tea that’s gone stone cold.
I found some jam in the toaster,
squashed orange in with the spoons,
cherry pips mixed into the dips
and half-chewed lollies everywhere strewn.
It looks like a cyclone has hit.
We’ve no excuses, it was all quite good fun.
Afternoon tea with a teddy or three …
Oh, but cleaning up when it’s all done!
poem for children.
