Don't piss off a poet

The floodgates have opened
And the dam has burst.
Issuing forth
this hurt-filled verse.
To the teens at the pool
in bikinis ill-fitting,
flabby tanned limbs,
thighs already pitting.
You dare call my girl
(a harmless little thing)
STUPID. YES STUPID!
with teenage sting.
You’ve proven your mettle
your lack of compassion.
I hope your young lives
are barren, without passion,
because it’s clear to me
you don’t have what it takes
to think outside the box
or cope with life’s mistakes.
Your lives should be easy
and completely challenge-free.
Just one last little stab.
Oh really … you wore bikinis???

oh hellllls no. im surprised you didnt come out punching!

  • Well, I knew they said something to Robyn but I didn’t know what. But today she has been mimicking them with “you’re stupid” and “you’re just stupid”. Surely they could see Robyn is not the average 6 year old? I don’t usually jab at over weight people … wouldn’t even if I dropped 8 dress sizes; but when it’s accompanied by nastiness to a little girl with a disability I think they’re fair game.

Go Anne! Well done. They well deserved that verbal smack by the sounds of it.

  • it makes me really sad that even kids can be nasty towards someone who can’t defend themselves. Robyn fortunately doesn’t see evil intent in anyone because I think she will get a fair bit of this in life. It’s just me that needs to deal with it really.

Ha ha… this is why I like you, Anne. The title… hilarious. Go MOM!

  • thanks Zolton. I just hope by some happy chance they’re on Facebook and see it.

why did they say this do you know?

  • Robyn was the only kid in the toddlers pool, in fact hardly anyone at the whole complex at all. They came over to wallow in the shallow water. Robyn makes friends with absolutely everyone she sees. She loves people. She went over and sat with them, asked their names and was calling them kids. She has limited vocabulary so a lot of what she says is made up of stock phrases. Most people tend to think this is cute. But people who don’t know her and have no tolerance call her “stupid”.

  • I kind of think though, they should have had tolerance since it was ‘her’ pool they came over to.

but you didn’t talk to these teenagers? it would have been a good opportunity to explain and raise awareness. such a shame that Robyn had to experience this.

  • I didn’t know what they’d said Soxy. But Robyn hasn’t interacted with anyone else since then and it’s only today she has been doing the mimicking thing. I was watching them fairly closely and body language said a fair bit.

You have every right to be stewing! Hell, IM made about it and Im oceans away! grrrr….

  • thanks Shannon. I guess part of the anger is feeling you can’t do anything about it but knowing people object to this behaviour makes me feel a lot calmer about it.

    fuck ‘em
youth really is wasted on the young.
Sometimes (only sometimes mind you) I wish it were like the old days and they seen and not heard.
Sorry for your pain Anne, but don’t forget. This is also part of your learning curve not matter how painful.
But in closing, i’d verbal the little shits to tears.
    PS
    and I have once.

  • Thanks Danny. As I said over in FB to one response, the hurt is mine, not Robyns and now that I’ve vented I’m over it. It doesn’t happen very often. The level of acceptance she has had at school from everyone, students, teachers, staff and parents has been absolutely awesome. They all love her to bits and she has (in one carer’s words) almost legendary status there. So it’s a stark contrast when someone is mean to her. But her language and vocab are so poor that she doesn’t really understand when someone is being mean. I guess for awhile that’s going to protect her in some ways.

Go Anne!!! Humans should learn, never to get inbetween a Mother and her child!! Makes a great poem though :D Pity they probably won’t see it, here or on FB… maybe submit it into the letters to the editor page of the local paper? I’m glad you’re ok and hope that Robyn’s ok too. I’d say she didn’t quite know what they meant, but understood their tone and attitude.

  • it didn’t phase her though GG and the fact that she was using it the next day, sort of testing it, really annoyed me! I made sure it was not a nice thing to say, but unfortunately that would have brought home to her that when it was said to her they were being mean. It’s not a concept she really understands. I guess that’s just part of growing up, hey?
