Dear Ralph

I miss you so much, darling. But I can’t see a way around our predicament. What you have suggested is too transparent. They will see right through it. We should never have ‘gone by the book’ my darling. I know you are a law-abiding man, but getting the five-year extension on our licence has just placed us under the microscope.

I wish there was a way we could find ourselves together again. I know! I shouldn’t be so clear in our letters, but it’s not actually breaking any laws feeling as we do. It’s just illegal to act on them.

I found out what happened to Frank and Merle. I got a vid-message from Merle this morning. She’s miserable, not only because they will always be apart now, but because of where they sent her.

They were caught, Ralph. They did as we did and were watched carefully from their China anniversary onwards. They should have given in to the Crystal Proclamation, then seen each other on the sly.

Frank is now assigned as livestock in a clinic in Perth and Merle was sent to Sydney. Because she is still quite beautiful and youthful looking, they use her for … well … inspiration at a fertility clinic.

They were charged with attempted monogamy. I remember the days when monogamy was everyone’s right! Mum and Dad didn’t have to get divorced, they even celebrated a ruby wedding anniversary before Dad died. Can you believe it? Forty years married to the same person.

I will try to find a way. I swear it. Please just go with the flow for now until the answer comes to us.

Your loving Lillian.

Hahaha, thanks Hilary. I don’t know if it would need to, the way things go so often now. I’m divorced and there are so many people my age that have divorced after 10 or 20 years! I was pondering this when the idea came to me – does anyone stay together any more because they are truly in love? And what would happen if divorce became mandatory after a number of years? Just some thoughts, no judgements. ;o)

I showed this to my fourth wife and she laughed.
She wanted to know what my fifth thought about it.

Very nice, a very cleaver and original idea. I only hope it doesn’t prove to be prophetic…
