In another world
Winner of the Bacchus Marsh Rotary Club Art Show, photography section 2009.
Since exhibiting this at the art show I’ve had many people tell me they are very familiar with this corner of road and never seen anything beautiful about it before. It is very gratifying to hear that they now look at this part of the world with different eyes.
This image was taken at the suggestion by an acquaintance (thank you, Keryl) when I was telling her about my water project (to photograph local bodies of water). Being that there is little about, puddles are a bit of an oddity, but this morning’s wonderfully special light helped to make this image (in my opinion) exceptional and I’m quite excited about the result.
It raises thoughts in my mind about the concept of alternate or parallel universes being linked by a reflection, kept apart by a fragile, gossamer field.
This image as is. There has been no alteration to colour, not even cropping or rotation adjustment.

Wonderful photography
Zolton
It’s great because where the photo at the top leaves off, the puddle picks up. Gorgeous image.
Tom Godfrey
Beautiful pic! Greetings from those of us on the other side of the, ”...fragile gossamer field.” :) I love that concept and your phrase Anne.
Nocturnus
I like puddles

I love the concept and the photograph. In some ways, just by themselves reflections are already parallel universes, even if there is no portal, as your thoughts suggest. Great photowork. I have a question, I always use the word artwork, and I looked in the dictionary and it is a word. But photowork is not in the dictionary, so I guess it is not a real word, but I want to use it anyway, it just seems so fitting. Is this wrong? I love your beautiful work, and the concept behind it. What a thinker you are Anne – Smiles from Jane:-)
Anne van Alkemade replied
Oh Jane, I am sorry I didn’t answer you sooner – I’ve just realised you asked a question. Although I’m a wordsmith first and foremost and dislike misused words, I also like ‘new’ words and I don’t see why it would be wrong to use ‘photowork’ although photography is already an all-encompassing descriptor. However, when in doubt, use a hyphen … so, photo-work. But it’s all subjective and I don’t think it’s wrong. Thank you so much for your comments. I’m still quite in love with this image. Been looking for similar inspirations ever since. LOL.
Kristina K
i know this corner and it usually has a puddle there most of winter, great capture of the reflective tree.

Just makes you want to jump in it doesn’t it?

Urban Umbra
nice…beautifully detailed reflection, branches become roots :)
Michelle Whennan
Who would have thougt a puddle of water could be so beautiful. Great shot
Anthony R. Pla...
This is a lovely shot. Not even a hint of breeze, so still. And the clouds look as if to promise more rain.
Chanel2
You’ve made a puddle look beautiful Anne.
rightasrain
Beautiful light captured beautifully! :-)
georgiegirl
This is amazing!!! I love the colouring and have to agree… it looks like a doorway to another world ;D Like Bert’s chalk pictures in Mary Poppins!!! but with a darker storyline!!
Anne van Alkemade replied
Thanks GG. I’m so excited about this image – I didn’t even touch colour or contrast. It’s as is (only one tiny adjustment to the horizon i.e. it wasn’t quite straight).
Antanas
Great capture
kathleen
this is very nice… Anne… I think you outdid yourself here… :-)
Michelle Boyer
Gorgeous reflection
amarica
Beautiful work, gorgeous. Undoubtedly there are parallel universes, not necessarily linked by water, but enjoying dual existes none-the-less. xxxx
Stephen Thomas
great photo of a wondeful reflection
Anne van Alkemade replied
thanks again Stephen. I was really quite excited about this shot. I feel it’s the best I’ve done and it has opened up new avenues for me to experiment with local content ‘as art’. :o)
Steven Novak
I like this a lot…love the depth.

and ripple the moon
~lily
Anne van Alkemade replied
:o) now that would make a gorgeous shot too. (BTW it’s the sun on a very overcast mid morning – but it does look like the moon, doesn’t it!)
lilylive
ahh the moon and sun masquerade as each other often ;) lol
richardj
great shot!
i love my reflections…
though i’m yet to get a good one :(
Anne van Alkemade replied
keep trying Richard. This one was a lot of luck with the right weather conditions and a casual glance down to the ground on my way back to my car after a very disatisfying photo shoot of the avenue!
Kimberly Miller
This is really beautiful Anne. You really captured the essence of the day and the contrast in nature.
Kimberly
Anne van Alkemade replied

Shannon Byous ...
Really gorgeous shot! The Magician’s Nephew (C.S. Lewis) has people hopping from one universe to another in it. Very cool to read your thoughts. Very creative!
Anne van Alkemade replied
Thanks Shannon. I appreciate that you’ve stopped to comment. I haven’t read much CS Lewis, I have to confess. Perhaps when my daughter is a bit older we might read them together because I rather like that concept. :o)
Mariebel Ferro
amazing photo!
Jennifer Prome...
wonderful work Anne, so creative!! :-)
Billie Dee
After the brooding, quasi-menacing feeling of this image passed, I found it deeply reflective (puns aside), almost ethereal. Brava!
Anne van Alkemade
Thank you Billie Dee. Yes, I wondered if it would seem a bit menacing, but it can be somewhat hypnotic too.
J. D. Adsit

crackgerbal
this reflection is such a creative shot!
Anne van Alkemade replied
Thanks for your comment Crackgerbal. :o)
It’s my fave. Bit of an experiment with an unexpected, very pleasant result.
Poor light on the day, ‘dirty’ weather etc just came together and worked well.
mikequigley
great capture – lovely mq
Anne van Alkemade replied
Thank you Mr Quigley. BTW has anyone ever mentioned your remarkable resemblance to a chap that lives up north?
Crystal Williams
I think I would like it better with the car and such gone and a square cropping, but nonetheless it’s beautiful. :)
J. D. Adsit
nice reflections

Anne van Alkemade replied
Thank you so much Ejacent. And for your comments on my other work too. :o)
mick8585
I love this Anne. It has a beautiful balance about it.
Anne van Alkemade replied
Thank you Mick. It is one of the most satisfying images I’ve ever taken, and it was purely serendipitous! Everything came together, the light, the puddle (so rare these days), the trees at their wintry best and I think even the planets were aligned.
Jinny Coyle
This is a great shot. I too love reflections – htere is something mystical about them though they are so often missed in our busy lives.
I actually think I know the corner – I came from Blackwood, just up the road for you :)
Anne van Alkemade replied
Hi Jinny. Welcome to Redbubble! I reckon you’ll love it here as much as I do! This is the corner Woolpack Rd and the Avenue of Honour so it’s likely you know the one although usually it blends into the rest of the avenue. Certainly lots of potential along that stretch of road to get artistic. LOL. Plenty in Blackwood too. Gorgeous place although I’d be a bit scared during these heat waves.
Rick Todaro
Wonderful Mood This Evokes ! Beautiful work !
