LOVE, PROTECT US

and you, meaning,
how distant you are to my eyes tonight
in drunken climates I lost a desert sylph
flying to a one-night liaison, departing from the centre of my eyes
a knife as sharp as exile severed my skin from my flesh

and you, life, withdraw outside
it is not daylight streaming out to a rose
superior to the silver heaths’ most beautiful flower
will blossom bloom from these bone-dry hands
and deserts turn green from these tear-stained eyes?

and you, the wind of sighs
is it honesty to steal the tax we paid to joy
from the palace of dark days?
and forgive me satan
since the light appeared
my blackness has not worshipped your glow
she has drawn love out of an elfin scabbard
and it won’t be replaced without being stained with blood
hearts and you, lips grazing each other
give flight to two swaying kisses
and carry them to my beloved tonight
bedaub my lanterns with oil
and light the way in my soul’s pure gold passageways
place the art of life in a coffin
and clothe my body in my love’s words
whip the clouds
leaning on the breast of long years
return my sylph to me…
