The Waste of Drought and Chord

I defy you,
Chord—
Immerse me in dread of key strokes
And rolling song
that tread upon music’s marrow,
That unrelenting swallows of sodden harmony escape neither my heart,
Nor well-hidden fawns’ veil.
Let nothing flee the scouring of an emptying heart
That refuses to lend mercy.
Exposed are the bare spells of time;
Haunted, my reckless rhythms,
Now spurned by worse than I dared think I was.
Chord,
Swallow up the crumbling bits of bank and hollow
And haul away to other places,
That which my ears can no longer abide.

Hide no more from me (for some sake I cannot name)
The darkest corners of remembrance and insight.
They are as meaningless as two notes more
In the deluge that will not weaken.

Expressing the need to create music when the music didnt want to be created…usually in the middle of the night when silence is not always friend.

    life is in this.
when you play a chord by a bowl of water you can see the vibrations on the water. they are all through the room, through your blood – but invisible except over water. and everything that has started to freeze up is set free again by the sound of a chord!
so, musician-poet-artist, by your own hand you are healed.

  • Maureen Maliha replied

sometimes I do not know if I am the water or the chord. Thank you my dear friend, as always… your insights are part of the notes xo

yes, that is a sound to reverberate. the piano, back in the late 60’s early 70’s I was out on the tugboat with my Dad and he was exhausted from too many hours at the wheel.
we pulled up to the pilings at Green Bay near Bella Coola,BC.
he was fast asleep and all of a sudden clear as a bell I could hear a piano playing music.
I listened to its melody for a bit and woke Dad up.
He was upset with me because he was so tired and couldn’t hear a thing.
That sound was so real to me though.
In the past we had an upright piano and what therapy it was just to go and play whatever came into my mind!

A Very soulful Poem and a really well done back Photo—the story is not lost !
    Beautiful Work all round !!

  • Maureen Maliha replied

Thank you, Evan! Must know – where was the music coming from that you heard? I can’t image what being on the tug must have been like….. you must have amazing memories!! Therapy=music YES. Thanks once again, I appreciate your wonderful and interesting comment xo

The marriage of word and picture. One jolts and jazzes the other, and ultimately they interlace. In particular I love the little tunnel of light on the underside of the keyboard cover, leading on to a distant brighter place.
