Letting Go

Maureen Maliha

Letting Go

If I could,
I would claw out all traces
of the one that left me without going,
Until only your scent
Lingers on my hands;
Where only my thoughts are what keep me from you.
But we are what we made ourselves to be
Through little breaths
And imaginings.
(The undoing is harder than the creating)
We are there for the fragments of memory we regret;
We cannot escape the things that have gone undone and
Gone too far.
I will wait for the moment when the burn feels just right
And then I will let go.
