Plaster 3 Dimensional Design by Mark Ramstead

One of three photos I have of a piece that was destroyed in an earth quake long ago. First thing I ever carved in plaster, I did no drawings in advance, and the hollowed out round scoops were an after thought that never entered my head when I first started carving it. I say all this because it was a unique and beautiful piece then and my fond feelings for it have not changed. I recently did a larger version in wood and used power tools to make it. It does not have the same energy though for a variety of reasons. I like to tell people if there was one thing I could show them that proved I have an artist’s talent, this would be the one piece.

I don’t think you have a lot to prove regarding talent! You seem to be multi-talented, and this piece is no exception. Shame it was lost :(

Thanks very much, at the time I made this there were few drawings or paintings and very little photography to recommend me.

I see why you loved it, mate. It truly has a deep beauty, and I’m sure you poured a lot into it. The shot you have taken is excellent, by the way, and really does convey the essence of the sculpture.
