_Theoretically, no one could remember Transit. Not directly… just the shards… kaleidescopes that glittered in your mental landscape later when you shut your eyes or iridescent ghost-lights flickering across your dreams like neon smoke. Rango Mackey could remember, though and always had. Probably because like Sojo Calliope, his Mentor, he was an Adept from birth. There were not too many homo sapiens who had the gift to that extent: some point zero-zero two percent and he was among the Lucky. Or, the Cursed – depending on your point of view_.
(More of the story below)

He’d had a rougher trip than usual. He still hadn’t shaken off the after-math. He had a headache twice the size of Betelgeuse to prove it! Nor had the neuro-dampers helped. They did in the beginning but the madness had a knack of bleeding though, after several thousand trips. It was not like Newbies thought, this time-travel thing… you didn’t “travel” anywhere. You died in one existence, phased into another. And transition could be murder on the psyche! Then, as he was only learning now, real Death was much the same…. Or as Einstein put it, “Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a persistent one.”

Einstein – back on Mackey’s Earth. In Mackey’s time. Wherever and whenever emerged, maybe Albert E. never even left the patent office. Maybe he was never born….

“Forget it, dude. I’m not going to wear that coat,” he said. “Red is not my color! Much too froppy. And it clashes with my hair.”

“Then, wear the black one,” said Calliope. “And don’t call me dude! Not in use. The nomenclature here is ‘gent.’ Maybe, ‘guy’ but only with the older crowd. And don’t sat ‘froppy.’ Where’d you even pick that up?”

“Last assignment, it was all the rage.”

“Well, you know better, yeah? They speak English in this Tangent – you’re in luck – but watch the slang until you acclimate. Have you got your head together yet? Drink up. We have a lot to do!”

This is the opening to the time travel story I have mentioned in some recent posts. The image is my Latest Experiment in CS2; they are all Experiments, as I never know the end results until I’m done! Also, I like to try something new with every one, whether it’s a layer blend, a brush I made, or something else.

The time traveler’s face is from A15_S_SMP039R_by_A15_S at DeviantArt.com. Light effects are mine with an overlay of Colored Ink (paper texture) from Enchantedgal stock. The far background (stars and moon) is from “Space Stuff by Fune Stock”, also at Deviant. Multiple brushes and color layers are applied.

I am told by experts that the music here is popular with time travelers… lol!

  • Thanks, Larry! I appreciate it! I am at a stage now where I would love to work with Bryce but my poor old computer just doesn’t have what it takes to handle that. So stock it is, for now. Hope to get an upgrade in the not too distant future (then I can bug you with questions) LOL!
