Forever by my side....

Forever by my side....

Desmond John Spittall

The original photograph of me and my dad was taken by my mum Liz Spittall when i was young (obviously), on our farm in Currumbin Valley. I treated it in PS to create an image i feel reflects us, as me and dad were quite similar.
I wanted to share this with the Bubble community as perhaps there can be some healing in sharing?

REMEMBER WHEN ONLY MEMORIES REMAIN…

The clouds outside my window are heavy and grey today…
connected…
reflecting the state of my heart.

Distant memories of times gone by play over in my mind…
suspended moments in time…
People, faces forgotten from years past.
Good times and bad, a minds photographs.

Gone is my rock, my constant…
my shining light amoungst the maddness.
I want you here to hold me…
to make my world seem right.

My super hero…
protector…
whats a girl do without her dad?

Imprinted on my heart are some stars you left behind…

I hear your voice somewhere in my sleep…

When the tears fall again it will be for my heart,
for now you are safe…
at one with the eternal…

Forever…

Remember when only memories remain…

I am so proud to be your daughter…
I love you Dad…xo

Mel this is just superb, i’m sure your dad is very proud of the daughter he has left behind.

The more you share, the better you will feel, of this i’m sure. I closed out the world when my father passed away and it was the worst thing I could have done.

Talk to your family, dont be scared of getting upset, it’s all part of it. If you bottle it all up eventually things just explode, and that will do you no good whatsoever.

    Excellent work with the image.

I’ve always loved that photo of you and Des, nice treatment! It depicts that deep love of nature, looking at that beautiful cliff face, I can just see it now with the wedge tailed eagles circling.

. A beautiful poem Mel, it brought tears to my eyes, good tears though!

mel, it’s taken me a few days to leave this comment here because i’ve been figuring out what it is that i love so much about this image. it’s the absolute utter cheekiness in both you and your dad’s eyes, the golden silence between you, the magic trust and comfort of your little arm around his huge shoulders… but probably mostly, what affects me most is that you look like you absolutely without a doubt know in this photo exactly where you belong in the world. and that is something wonderful to have captured :) beautiful treasured work.

  • Mel Spittall replied

Thank you so much Holly! it’s taken me so long to reply to you because your words resonate so much with me….they really tug at my heart and everytime i read them i well up…i thank you so much for your time and thoughts and beautiful, beautiful words :-) xoxo
