Nightshot of Manchester from Monk's Road by

At night there is always a glow in the sky from Manchester in Glossop, and when it’s overcast the light pollution is particularly strong.

I took this on a very windy night from the hill overlooking Charlesworth and Broadbottom. It was a struggle to keep the shot steady as the camera strap was acting like a wind-sock, so of the thirty or forty shots I took that night, only a few were in focus and steady.

I like the way this looks like a special effect, and one person even said it looks like Hell! I’ve lived in Manchester and I’m not sure I’d go that far….

Taken with a Canon EOS-1100D with the 18-55mm EF-S Lens

I love nothing more than wandering the hills with a camera! I’m originally a Cumbrian, but I now live in the Peak District and draw inspiration from the natural beauty of the landscape.
