Playing with petals

As a gentle girl
pulling petals
from flowers

and whispering:
He loves me.
He loves me not.

with each
purposeful pull
of the flower.

To a woman
twisting, turning,
whirling in despair;

tugging on petals
of an altogether
different variety,

then whispering:
He loves me.
He loves me not.

Wondering why
love has become
so murky, so dark.

Why?
Why Not?
Why Love?

Nothing to do with my personal circumstances, for anyone curious! For a number of my friends experiencing lack of commitment, lack of interest, and it reminds me in headspace to one I called Bad romance…pick up lines x
Bad Romance – Glee (Lady Gaga song)

I’ll defer to Anna Quindlen, of The New York Times: “People who are knowledgeable about poetry sometimes discuss it in that knowing, rather hateful way in which oenophiles talk about wine: robust, delicate, muscular. This has nothing to do with how most of us experience it, the heart coming around the corner and unexpectedly running into the mind. Of all the words that have stuck to the ribs of my soul, poetry has been the most filling.”

glad to hear this not of a personal circumstance, Debbie. There be many petals in our lives, some we pull, some are for others, and some just fall off… whatever the case, ultimately it’s the flower in our own garden that needs our own attention… which is not as easy as it sounds. Lovely to see you Debbie… hope all is well up in the north. xoxo

  • Thanks Cos. Everything is shiny here; Brisbane agrees with me in ways I never would have guessed. How about you dear one? x

Wowzers! Hardhitting. Could feel the frustration and the shout out to be loved.

  • Yeah, it is one of those for sure. Having been a non-romantic for so many years, it still pains me everytime one of my friends in in the cycle of “love me, love me, love me” and the other person does not even see them! Hope all is well with you MM x

argh honey – i feel you on that one! lots of unrequited love going on and its not as poetic as everyone makes it out to be. ;-)

  • Unrequited BS more like! I am so thankful to be with a person who loves me, who sees me, who detests the traps so many people fall into. As for the other being poetic – I so get your point!
