Duality

He burns old friends like driftwood;
jealousy is nothing good.

Rage burns, making her spineless.
Torture renders her careless.

Frenemies: one and the same.
Friends do not know they’re to blame.

Petty and violent, of course,
a life lived without remorse.

Aloof: he takes what he wants.
Withered, he fades to someone gaunt.

She is ugly and brittle;
forlorn, drawn to too little.

Chinese BurnBloc Party

Hurry up boy
You’re making me wait
Twist my arm boy
Chinese burn
You smell like shit boy
What have you been doing?
You smell like shit boy
Me and you
Suffocate you
Sweat and semen
Negate desire
With promises
We’ve all been hurt boy
And learnt the hard way

Tear it down boy
Start again
God sends disasters
God sent you to me
Why so worried?
You didn’t let me down
Why so sad boy?
You didn’t wear me out
If you don’t feel it
Like the others
If you don’t feel it
You never will
God sends disasters
God sends disasters
The flames of desire have taken hold
If I don’t burn with you I burn alone

I’ll defer to Anna Quindlen, of The New York Times: “People who are knowledgeable about poetry sometimes discuss it in that knowing, rather hateful way in which oenophiles talk about wine: robust, delicate, muscular. This has nothing to do with how most of us experience it, the heart coming around the corner and unexpectedly running into the mind. Of all the words that have stuck to the ribs of my soul, poetry has been the most filling.”

  • Ah Cynthia, thanks so much! It comes from times past and some books I’ve been reading of late – there are bigger consequences than can be first guessed if we refuse to know ourselves, or develop our empathy and self-awareness. I see that all the time in your art and journals, so think you get where I’m coming from xxx

Yet again you stand before the world and share your pain……or is it something or some-one else….?
Great clip Debbie to complement this piece……xo

  • Hey Ray, something from times past, well past. I have been reading a lot of novels lately and one of the themes I keep coming back to is this: if we choose to not know ourselves, develop our empathy and self-awareness, the consequences are bigger than might first be guessed. Thanks for visiting Ray, hope all is well in Btown xxx
