Plague & Pestilence

Everything dies
Verity is silenced

Even beside loneliness
Reality is a labyrinth

You seek the word for wishful
Torment is truth

History whimpers
It ignores the future

Nothing is illuminated
Going going gone

Despair strides the streets
Illusion is complete

Everyone denied
Silenced the world sighs

Plague & Pestilence

This year’s theme is ‘The Future Imagined’ and the poem can be up to 15 lines.

Deadline: June 30th 2012.

Send your poem to poems@poetryinfilmfestival.com.au.

Last year, poet Belinda Hilton was overwhelmed by the quality and diverse interpretation of her poem Four Letters, Three Words. “My experience as the featured poet for PIFF 2011 was priceless,” said Belinda. “Not only did the festival give me national and international exposure as a writer/poet it also enabled me to form great network contacts within the creative industry. The diversity in interpretation of my work was exciting. Seeing how your writing can inspire others is a rare opportunity for most writers and truly validates your practise. I come from a cross discipline background and believe that working with creative practitioners outside of your field can reinvigorate your work and the Poetry in Film Festival is testament to that.”

2011 winning poem: Four Letters, Three Words By Belinda Hilton

Like a secret;
I desperately want to tell you.
Whisper it in your ear,
pass you a note,
write it on your arm as you sleep.
I want to send you messages.
Reveal it in a look, a glance, a kiss.
Do you suspect me?
Play it down, fold it up.
Swallow.
Would you leave if you knew?
Or would you hold me,
like a secret?
