Salvation
“You save yourself or you remain unsaved” Lucky (Alice Sebold)
When I selected Salvation as the title, a memory of the Five Finger Death Punch song Salvation also came to me!
Salvation belongs to the following groups:
"Poetry and Beautiful Women" , All Out Emotion, All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical, Anger Management, Feminine Intent (LIMIT TWO IMAGES PER DAY), Freedom In Words & Art, Midnight Ramblers, Music Inspired Art (M.I.A) music links/lyrics required, The Art of Pain, THE SISTERHOOD and Verses DarkDamage done;
I’ve harmed much
More than I’d wish.
Transformation
Within me.
What I lack,
Your virtue
Provides.
So if I fall will you
Believe
In me?
Even when I’m lost
Will you
Search
For me?
Confusion gone;
What was hidden,
Has become crystal clear.
To break the cycle,
I’m torn yet
Reluctantly
Turn to
You.
Hate is the burden I
Carry through life.
But if you’d accept
Me just as I am,
Could I be made
Whole once
Again?
Lost without a purpose,
Self-consumed with
Fierce doubt.
Yet it feels so wrong
To speak of freely giving
This calloused heart to another.
Can you forgive me?
Would you save me?
I’ve broken promises,
I’ve made many mistakes,
Too numerous to count even.
I’ve searched myself; I’m empty.
But the biggest fallacy I ever
Deceived myself into believing:
That anyone else could save me.
Salvation comes only from within.
And you have to believe you’re worth saving.

We are all nothing more than harbingers of salvation, as well as damnation. We think, we forget. We choose, we relinquish. We believe, we disavow and somehow all seems by our hand and as yet has nothing to do with us per se as I believe all was preordained by the powers that be.
msdebbie replied
Hey Steve, your comment that We choose, we relinquish are quite the powerful subtext to my poem actually. In an earlier draft I used both those precious words – and basically agree. I believe both human frailty and empowerment rests on both our choices and what we are prepared to do without (ideally for the greater good!) Likeminded indeed my friend xoxo
msdebbie replied
The only area we diverge, of course, is that I am of the nothing is preordained; there are no TPTB! persuasion. Except those in the Whedonverse :)

Awesome, emotional write. I believe it does have to come from within us. And, my dear, you are worth saving, believe it. : )) love, shar xoxoxo
msdebbie replied
Sweet Shar! Thanks for such kind comments. Don’t worry, my musings were not of the I am nothing, worthless, variety but it is nice of you to say so lovely woman!!! xoxo Deb xoxo

The gift of you is reason enough to believe your worth, no wealth can ever purchase this, and only you can own it, but because you share it we all admire it,
Great write msdebbie. xx

Good observations Adrian, thank you!

Debbie, this is powerful!
msdebbie replied
Thank you Jono, another word I adore when it is not a reflection of abused power.
Gosh, I’m getting a bit of a blush happening here!!!

“Salvation comes only from within. And you have to believe you’re worth saving..” That’s always the crux, isn’t it? Beautiful writing..xo
msdebbie replied
Lovely Lupa, thank you! (Hadn’t posted a comment to a journal entry from you, but I also love the beautiful artwork of Linaji – your profile pic is sublime!!!) Crux indeed, but a realisation worth coming to methinks xoxo
Lisa Jewell
Powerful and poignant writing…I relate so very strongly to this brilliantly written piece…and the ongoing work of self forgiveness.
xxxxx
msdebbie replied
Wow – so insightful, just like Steve, Lisa (no surprise I guess!!!) Self-forgiveness was actually a title I considered, but I realised I’ve been a bit self-obsessed perhaps. From memory think I have the following in my back catalogue: self-esteem, self-abuse, self-examination, self-doubt LOL :) Anyone know the Latin for self?
?

So true, the realisation that is really the first step to healing.
“Salvation comes only from within.
And you have to believe you’re worth saving.”
Excellent writing Debbie.
msdebbie replied
Thank you Matt!!!
I really appreciate that so many people like the conclusion as much as I have come to believe it.

I like you a lot Deb. You’re a beautiful blessing so please continue with your wisdom because many stand to gain much from it.
msdebbie replied
I rarely feel wise though Steve! But thanks, I definitely appreciate the pure intention with which I know you write xoxo

Words from the heart of experience… xoxox
msdebbie replied
Of course! Experience is the only place I can write from as yet – but I am hopeful one day my creative musings will take me to places unexplored and imagined xoxo

ah… such a powerfully written piece of self-actualisation and realisation. It’s one hell of a journey for sure, but the destination makes it all worth it.
“Salvation comes only from within.
And you have to believe you’re worth saving.”
So true…
It also comes when you believe that others are worth saving. It can be so easy to objectify and dehumanise people when you’ve been objectified yourself. xox
msdebbie replied 7 days ago
Gosh yes, I really agree with your latter point her Jen! I have always hated the idea that it’s all about the journey – for I love finding a good destination! Ah well, so pleased you relate. Thought it would fit well with your excellent rant, which is so moving and powerful. I still love your writing so much! Love, Deb xoxo
