I’m a shutterbug currently living in San Diego. I have loved photography since I was a kid but until almost 2 years ago my equipment never consisted of more than a inexpensive point and shoot camera.
November of 2006 I got my first digital SLR. A Canon Rebel XT on clearance. It was the kit with the standard EF 75-300mm 1:4-5:.6 III zoom and the EFS 18-55 mm .28m/0.9ft lenses. And recently I purchased a 380 EX Speedlight off Craigslist.
Oh I dream about the Canon 5D or the Canon EOS-1D Mark III Digital SLR, while visions of lenses like the Canon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS dance in my head.
I don’t have Photoshop….I use the free Picasa editing software from Google. And a something called FXFoto that was given to me by a friend.
Yes, I know I’m equipment limited. And the chances are if the lighting gods aren’t smiling down upon me and the angle is less then superb I’m not going to be happy with the shot. But I do what I can with what I have.
I like to think of it as being “old school” on some level. Trial and error. Learning from my mistakes and trying to get the best grasp possible on the basics since I don’t have filters, awesome lenses, or editing software to help me.
