Some kind words and I'm overcome.

As I wrote to the lady in question, a few minutes ago, it could easily be the effect of some glasses of wine, enjoyed earlier tonight, but I sat down, with a cup of instant coffee, just now, to check the messages on my computer, very close to mid-night, before going to bed and read, on face book, that an ex-pupil remembers my brief time at her school fondly.
I have this silly feeling that a bit of weight has been lifted and am feeling a little emotional about it all.

Google my various identities (Dutch name, legal name, user names, etc.) and add Maude, 1967, and you may find me writing about: Sunday too far away and Wake in Fright and a quote from my mother who is supposed to have said: How could they send a boy, straight out of Holland, that far, out into the country?

The Department of Education, rescued and/or punished me by transferring me, after two terms and two-thirds of the way through the year, to Bourke, where I found myself among a number of good-fun colleagues – one couple at least, still being very good friends.

Here on Redbubble, I have just told the story of my first production of Alice in Wonderland, in Bourke, the following year!
..
O.k., Chris. Anther cup of coffee and thinking carefully about how to respond, I’m over the initial reaction but still want to thank you for making me feel a whole lot better.
..
As told elsewhere, a few years later, my parents and another couple, visited Maude, on their way to Adelaide.

By then, there was running water, electricity and a nice park,by the river.
..
When I bought my Subaru Imprezza, as I retired from teaching, I told my son and my daughter, I needed that car, to go and lay the ghosts of Maude and Bourke.
Caring for my paents prevented that.
But, perhaps, now is the time!!

Perhaps, I did not do such a bad job, after all!!?!
41 years later, I feel a little better.

In 1969, I enrolled in the “Art Teachers Conversion Course”. It was my first experience of formal art lessons. Soon other interests prevailed, until, I had lunch, in Hazelhurst and then enjoyed the art classes there. Culminating in my exhibition, in 2008.

wonderful, good old Pluto making you clear up things from the past, Do keep us updated. love and hugsxxx

  • Wow! Thanks, Hilary. Pluto?
Being transferred out of Maude, at the time, felt like being tarred and feathered, out of town.
However!!! Made life-long lovely friends, in Hay, 51 kms away.
The kids were great! The experience was very likely character-building.
It made Bourke, also 9 hours drive away from home, a fun place to be, with a number of other young teachers to bounce off, and a red-headed colleague as a friend………..

Wonderful, vivid story telling Jo. I am glad a student has made you feel at peace with the past. I am sure all teacher’s wonder if they truly make a difference.
