All the little Dutch boys.

All the little Dutch boys.

In the mid-fifties, our parents brought us to Australia.
We all ended up in the migrant hostel, in Pozieres Ave, Matraville.
Sputnik was exploring space, above our heads and we were exploring our new environment, on the other side of the world, from the Netherlands.
Our parents became friends, first visiting each other in the little rooms, inside the two ex-army barracks and later, as everyone found accommodation, outside the hostel, the ties remained strong.
In 1957, after a few weeks in three different primary schools, I made my way to South Sydney Boys Junior High School, in Randwick.
Soon Jelle (Changed it to Jan, which I’ve only realised in recent years) came to the school and then Hans.
Hans (top left hand side) and I have the most but infrequent contact. I’ve also met up with Jan (Jelle) in recent years.
The other ‘boys’, I had not seen since 1956/57.
The boys have now reached the age of qualification to be grandparents. Hard to believe!
