monday 9.7.07 part 2: learning to dance socially

Friday 9.7.07 part 2-after sleep

Well, he did, of course, wake up. 3pm. So there was time to take him for a drive to see the baby. I prepared him for it-“We’re going to say hello to the baby, see Callum, his mum Nadia.” Etc.

When we got there, he was in a ‘not’ mood. ‘I not say hello to the baby. I not.’ I picked up a succulent leaf from the garden (they propagate themselves). Mr Fix It says ‘Put that BACK!’ Oh dear. Here we go up the stairs, to visit the baby. ‘I not go upstairs. I not!’

We knocked on the door and went inside. Mr Fix It became all shy. He hid his face in the corner behind the door. Nadia and I exchange greetings. ‘Mr Fix It, are you going to say hello?’ ‘I not.’ Of course. We concede shyness is to do with unfamiliarity, so I whisk him away from the door and onto my lap. Nadia and I talk for a bit. Try to include Mr Fix It. The baby is being fed, arousing no curiosity from Mr Fix It just yet.

Gradually, he warmed up. Then, with a few stories, a noisy animal ‘mat’ game (it squeaked when you stood on it) he began to REALLY warm up. He was dancing and shouting and wiggling around. If we recall earlier attempts to teach him yoga-where I thought it had no effect? He came out with ‘exercise’, demonstrating downward facing dog, the cat and a few of his own! Hilarious.

Then a funny thing happened. Hamish came home (her husband). Quite uncanny. Mr Fix It was in awe! Hamish had some work from home to do- Mr Fix It sat himself beside him and watched. When the baby started to cry in his cot, Mr Fix It watched. No touching, even when invited. (bit like dogs-too scary)

When it was time to go, he was still hyped up, so we did a bit of run, run, running in the small green area near the car, jumped in some puddles etc. Fun fun fun. Then home at 5.30 to Inna-who look relieved to have had the break. Hopefully Mr Fix It had expended enough energy to be in bed early for her!
