Paraganj

The Paraganj bazaar in New Delhi.. we happened to arrive in a once a year Sikh festival.. by nightfall there was sword-fighting in the streets.. I love this shot because like everywhere in India, there’s always faces at every turn.. and I love the faces in this shot, from the guys at the front, to the bystanders in the shadows..

Paraganj belongs to the following groups:

there’s too much unquiet in the air,. textures create a really tense mood as if something’s going to happen… stunning work.

this was taken in November of 2006.. I only had a month in India so I thought I’d try and see just one state well..so I chose Rajasthan.. hope to go back and see the rest some day.

Looks very natural… I like the energy, the tones and light are really effective for the shot. Well done.

spent 2 days in Delhi temp was 44c…pilot strike…hardly moved from air con…but got sick and promised never to return…kept promise…that lucky foto..was in Almeria Spain..where all those Clint Movies were done….I spent 6 yrs on the road mainly Med and Middle east…thus that suitcase of fotos…am kinda known for my Nam fotos…published In My Vietnam by Steve Lewis..

  • Murray Newham replied

haha yeah its often a place thats better in retrospect.. it’s tough travel.. I had a month in Rajasthan and you kinda learn to adapt when you have to.. as you’d know.. 6 years on the road.. amazing man.. I haven’t seen much of the middle east.. furthest I got was Turkey.. it’s next on my map.. it’s amazing to see some of your Vietnam photos.. I’ve spent a lot of time in that region and the effects of war there have left a huge impact on how I see the world..

as they say…live and learn…and am only slightly a little wiser…my fotos reflect the diversity of a life….used ….how well is debatable but at the Finale…does it matter….

  • Murray Newham replied

..probably not.. but you did it.. most of us tend to wallow around in sedation and complain we ‘never had time’..

Wonderful observatory shot (is that the right word?), we’d love it in MAJOR EVENT, we are trying to get photography from festivals all over the world. This is so appealing in an unobtrusive way and I love the colour treatment!
