London drawing - Waterloo Bridge on the Embankment

Surely one of the best walks in London must be along the Embankment. Here you can see and experience the atmosphere of this great city. One of the best times to walk – and to use your sketchbook if you are artistically inclined – is early morning when the shadows are at their longest. In this sketch near Waterloo Bridge, I tried to capture the peaceful ambience of the walkway alongside the Thames. Just metres away, the busy rush-hour traffic streams back and forth.

    Excellent light, shadow and atmosphere (although I’ve not been since the mid 80’s).
