… this is a pen and ink (actually done with crowquille pen and India Ink. After getting the kids busy working on their projects, I would then work on my old windmill. Actually there was only the lower building in the original sketch, but while I was out of the room, one of the kids came up and tried to work on it an dropped a big drop of ink in the sky just above the little building. That drop became the window of the two story building behind the little building, necessity being the mother of … whatever…..
I sketched the old wooden windmill on the road between Plainview, Texas and Floydada, Texas. It was a ruin at that time. All operating windmills then were galvanized metal.. That drawing is still hanging in our living room….very, very darkened and faded. I think if I tried to take it out of the frames it would disintegrate into a cup full of tatters.
