High Force waterfall in spate conditions, showing the awesome power of water. During normal conditions the river only flows down the left hand channel. However, after heavy rains the right hand waterfall appears, and in very extreme conditions the water will cover the whole of the rock face. Though this is very rare and I don’t think it has happened since they built the dam at Cow Green, several miles upstream, which now controls the flow of the river. Regardless of that it’s still an amazing experience standing there watching and listening to the water crashing the 70 feet over the falls. This shot was taken on 7th September 2008, using a Fuji FinePix S8000fd camera. The waterfalls are located in Upper Teesdale in County Durham.
