Tearful Polypore - Inonotus radiatus by MotherNature2

Tearful Polypore - Inonotus radiatus by

This is another of life’s sorrowful mysteries – is it a Resinous Polypore, or maybe a Mossy Maple Polypore, or something entirely different – sigh. It had fruiting bodies three years ago and those are still on the tree, dried out, tough as nails, dark, and covered with moss and/or algae. Now it has new fruiting bodies – this is the largest and it’s weeping amber-colored tears.

My appreciation to relayer51 who gave me the ID. I’m a woosy when it comes to attaching a name to something when I’m not sure, especially with mushrooms and other fungi, so the help from experts is always welcomed:>)

I love nature, science, poetry, prose, art, music – you name it! Now that I’m retired, time is mine to spend as I wish (pretty much), and I wish to take pictures of our natural world.

Bringing the outdoors in for others to see, especially those who may not get the opportunity to wander next to a pond, fish at the beach, or tramp in the woods, is a pleasure. I hope to build a window to the wonders of nature that fill our everyday lives.

Hi Mothernature , I went through my books and the net and I think this is a Inonotus radiates if you do a search for that quite a few images come up ,some with fruiting bodies some without . Great find and capture.

  • Many thanks! I’m changing the title to include your identification, and I am indebted to you for the time and effort you put in to help:>) I am always nervous about giving an ID when I’m not positive, so expert aid is most appreciated!
