Joe-Pye Weed Wildflower - Eupatorium by

Joe-Pye Weed is native to Eastern North America, grows to over 6 feet tall, and carries large flower heads of tiny purple/pink blooms. It is loved by insects of all kinds.

Joe Pye, an Indian healer from New England, used E. purpureum to treat a variety of ailments, which led to the name Joe-Pye weed for these plants.

This picture was taken October 13, 2012, in Tylersport, Pennsylvania, USA.

I love nature, science, poetry, prose, art, music – you name it! Now that I’m retired, time is mine to spend as I wish (pretty much), and I wish to take pictures of our natural world.

Bringing the outdoors in for others to see, especially those who may not get the opportunity to wander next to a pond, fish at the beach, or tramp in the woods, is a pleasure. I hope to build a window to the wonders of nature that fill our everyday lives.

So pretty and lovely colour contrast

  • It’s an impressive plant. We love having it around but the open land is slowly disappearing and it has fewer and fewer places to grow and thrive. Hope it always fins a place to put down roots:>)! Thanks so much!
