Artist's Description

Helvella crispa is identified by it’s shapeless cap, ridged stem, and sort of fuzzy underside. This mushroom was growing in hardwood forest leaf litter next to a boulder in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, USA. The picture was taken September 14, 2011. They are found in late summer and autumn in eastern North America, Europe, Japan, and China.
