Artist's Description

The Woolly Bear caterpillar becomes the Isabella Tiger Moth with a wingspread of up to 2 inches. This caterpillar is an almost indiscriminate feeder that eats many kinds of plants; they love herbs. The bristles are sometimes said to be venomous – not true – but in people with very sensitive skin they could cause some irritation just because they are “bristly”.

Mythology says the size of the black stripes foretells how bad the winter will be – not so. The older the caterpillar is, the larger the brown stripe grows making the black stripes at the end recede.
