This is “The Point”, a favorite spot for fishermen. It is Diamond Shoals, Hatteras Island, NC, where the Labrador Current and the Gulf Stream crash together. The fierce surf forms dangerous shoals that, throughout history, claimed many a ship. The rip currents and sand bars draw in many kinds of fish – a fisherman’s dream and a sailor’s nightmare.

Dedicated to the power of the sea.

I love nature, science, poetry, prose, art, music – you name it! Now that I’m retired, time is mine to spend as I wish (pretty much), and I wish to take pictures of our natural world.

Bringing the outdoors in for others to see, especially those who may not get the opportunity to wander next to a pond, fish at the beach, or tramp in the woods, is a pleasure. I hope to build a window to the wonders of nature that fill our everyday lives.

What a capture this is…the surf, the sky, and the 2 well placed figures with the one wearing yellow. Yes, that too is a contributing factor. I find yellow really adds in inclement conditions…a definite fave. >Ron<

  • This is such a terrific comment, Ron – thank you for your generous and thoughtful words! My husband was fishing on the other side of this spit of land, but these fellows were more interesting, especially with that beautiful sky above and the fierce, gray/green sea!

Carol, I can’t help but wonder what the seagull was thinking, do hope they got some fish for all their effort. Love the look of this one. FAVE – Shirley

  • They are extremely clever and learn quickly. It is probably waiting for the big, hungry fish to come close and chase the bait fish to the surface. When birds are “working” (flying in circles around a spot, crying out, diving, in large numbers) it means something fierce is eating the little fish from below. Fishermen watch for this clue. Thank you for the lovely comment and for the empathy for the seagull:>)
